SE Uplift Board Committees

SE Uplift has several opportunities for committee participation, and many of these committees are currently seeking new members. While most of the committees on this page can only be joined by current Board members, two committees (our Land Use and Transportation Committee and our Houseless Committee) are currently open to anyone from the SE Portland community who is interested in participating. Regardless of board membership, all of our committee meetings are open to the public – anyone can attend. If interested in joining a committee, please view the committee descriptions below for additional details and staff contact information.

Executive Committee

The SE Uplift Board of Directors’ Executive Committee meets monthly on the third Tuesday from 5:30-7:30pm via Zoom until further notice. Access meeting agendas, the Zoom link and minutes here.  Voting at Executive Committee meetings is restricted to committee members. However, members of the public are welcome!

The Executive Committee, consisting of the officers of the organization and a past-chair, provides primary administrative governance of our organization. Executive Committee members review and make recommendations to the full SE Uplift Board on any significant out-of-budget expenditures, support, oversee and review the Executive Director, and review and approve fiscal sponsorship applications, personnel policy changes and more*. Executive Committee has the authority of the Board of Directors to make decisions on routine and emergency business items. All actions taken by the Executive Committee are reported to the full Board.

The 2022-2023 Executive Committee is comprised of the following members:

Co-Chairs: Dave Weaver

Vice-Chair: Kat West

Secretary: Kim Bandy

Treasurer: Doug Waugh

Past Chair: Tina Kimmey

The Finance Committee consists of board members of the organization and is chaired by the board treasurer. With the support of the Executive Director, this committee is responsible for budget and financial planning development, preparation and distribution of timely and accurate financial reports to the board, and creation of internal fiscal controls and safeguards for SE Uplift.

Land Use and Transportation Committee (LUTC)

The SE Uplift Land Use and Transportation Committee meets monthly on 3rd Mondays from 7 pm – 9 pm in the Fireside Room at SE Uplift, 3534 SE Main Street.  During COVID-19, all meetings are held virtually until further notice.

The LUTC is a long-standing committee that frequently hosts guest speakers. It is primarily used as a forum for learning and sharing information about current land use and transportation-related projects, policy, and efforts happening in SE Portland. All members of the public are welcome to attend and participate. For more information, click here.

Houselessness Action Committee (HAC)

SE Uplift’s Houselessness Action Committee meets every 4th Monday at 5:30 pm. During COVID-19, all meetings are held virtually. Any community member in SE Portland can join this committee. For more information, click here.

The HAC is focused on supporting our houseless neighbors during this time of great need.  The committee is also focused on empowering housed neighbors with tools and skills to treat unhoused neighbors with kindness and respect while resolving points of conflict. The HAC has developed a Houselessness Resource Guide for the SE Portland community.

Bylaws Committee

This short-term committee consisting of SE Uplift Board members is responsible for reviewing SE Uplift’s non-profit bylaws to align them with best practices, legal parameters, and by making bylaw update recommendations to the full SE Uplift Board. The committee engaged the expertise of the Center for Nonprofit Law in the process, and in a near-unanimous vote on April 4, 2022,  the SE Uplift Board of Directors updated its bylaws

This committee now meets on an as-needed basis. Please contact Nanci for more information about this committee.

Board Development Committee

This committee identifies needs and helps provide development opportunities for current board members. Contact Nanci or our current Chair for more information or with ideas to contribute. Committee membership is restricted to those currently on our board.
