JOIN THE GRANTS REVIEW COMMITTEE
Inquire by January 10th, 2022

SE Uplift is recruiting volunteers who represent a wide spectrum of community perspectives to serve on our Grant Review Committee. Committee members evaluate grant applications based on established criteria and make funding recommendations to the SE Uplift Board of Directors. No prior experience with grant-making is necessary to be involved. This is a rewarding opportunity to experience, first-hand, the conversations that funders have about which projects to reward, network with fellow community leaders and support grassroots projects aimed at strengthening our communities.

Application Due By Friday, January 10th, 2022

The six-person review committee will divide the grant review responsibilities by grant type. Participants will review applications from January 13th, 2022 through February 3rd, 2022, independently using a score sheet. The committee members will come together on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 to discuss their scoring sheets and come to an agreement of awarding the funds.

For your time, you will not only provide a value to your community and build your leadership skills, SE Uplift is able to provide a $50 gift card for your participation ($75 for youth). Please let me know if you would like a stipend.

Our grant review criteria is driven by SEUL’s ongoing efforts toward equity through our DEIA commitments. As a member of the grant review committee, you will exercise leadership and help SE Uplift award projects that reflect a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible future for southeast Portland.

  • We are asking for a time commitment of 10 to 25 hours to review and score the grant applications. Small grants will require more time than the DEIA Capacity Building grants to number and score.
  • Grants will be available for review starting January 13th – after we meet as a group to divide grant applications.
  • Attend two 2 hour meeting:
    •  Thursday, January 13th, 2021 (time tba) – the group will come together and get an overview of the review process, we will talk over scoring sheets and distribute the applications.
    • Thursday, February 3rd, 2021 (time tba) – the group will come together to discuss and make final award decisions.

About the Grants:

Community and Civic Engagement Small Grants-

SE Uplift is in its 15th year of facilitating the Community and Civic Engagement Small Grants. The goals of this grant are to increase the number and diversity of people who are involved and engaged in the broader community; strengthen community capacity to create change by building community leadership, identity, skills, relationships, and partnerships; and increase community impact on public decisions and community life.

DEIA Capacity Building Grants-

Each year, SE Uplift provides community groups with a small amount of funding to be used for communication and outreach efforts. Our priority for communication and outreach funding in 2021 is to make funds available to our diverse SE Portland community and to ensure funds support strategies and best practices for effective and accessible outreach and community engagement. The DEIA Capacity Building grants will be awarded to projects that support outreach and engagement strategies that focus on inclusion and accessibility with the intent of increasing diversity and equity.
